About Sarah

Sarah is a visual artist from the Netherlands. Whether in her home in Amsterdam or traveling around the world as a model or leading women’s retreats, she never leaves her house and studio for extended amounts of time without her inks, brushes, paints and paper. If she’s without her materials, she will write poetry or create new recipes. Some people just don’t know how not to create; it is a must, a way of life.

My mother told me that when I was seven years old I painted only pirates, for an entire year. Only pirates. She has this huge pile of pirate paintings stored in the basement. I’d spent days on end, listening to music, singing, writing, dancing and painting. Slightly obsessed, emerged into projects. She says I haven’t changed much at all. Still creating, still needing this outlet to channel the ideas, fantasies and visions that are flying around in my head. I have never been short of a lack of imagination and the urge to create. It’s - in my opinion - the fuel of life: this inexhaustible source of the purest magic. Creating new realities is my absolute favourite thing to do.

(Are tornado’s her new ‘pirates’?) Sarah has finished a yearly photography and a graphic design course. She has also attempted to join the Rietveld academy evening school, but she left after three lessons. She didn’t want to talk about art, she wanted to make it. It was a great decision.
